Chicago Is Top Ten In Lowest Rated Riders

Read the article above. Uber has released their data on the top ten highest & lowest rider rated cities in the United States. Chicago riders are in the top ten of lowest rated riders in the country.

From my experience driving, I've noticed that nearly 50% of the ride requests that I receive are riders who are under a 4.80 rating. Every time you're reported by a driver, your rating drops by .01. So if you're under a 4.80, it means you've been reported 20+ times.

Why should you care about your Uber rating?

Answer:

  • 1) It's costing you more per ride, because every time a driver gives you a 1 star rating, you will no longer be matched with that driver, which decreases the pool of drivers that Uber has to choose from to match you with. It's basic supply & demand.
    • (Side note: every time you as a rider give a driver anything less than a 5 star rating, you are no longer matched with that driver; which again is decreasing your pool of drivers Uber has to choose from = you will be paying more per trip. So please be fair when giving a driver a rating, especially if the car is clean, smells good, and the driver gets you to your destination safely).
  • 2) With the dangerous & deadly environment that Chicago drivers have faced since Summer 2020 due to criminals targeting us, a majority of Chicago Uber/Lyft drivers are expressing in online forums that for safety reasons they no longer will pick up low rated riders. So you may be left stranded if you have a low rating.

Besides rating, other ways you may be unaware is costing you more per trip:

  • 1) When your driver arrives, a 7 minute timer pops up on our driver app. If you are not ready to leave & within the car after two minutes, Uber then begins increasing the price of your trip. If the timer expires, Uber cancels the trip & charges you a $5 no show fee. Another reason to not request trips before you're ready to go.
  • 2) When you tell a driver to follow your directions instead of the directions Uber is telling them, Uber will charge you more. The price you agree to when you click confirm to book your trip is based on a predetermined route, so any alteration of that route incurs an extra charge.
  • 3) When you vomit in an Uber, Uber will charge you a $150 cleaning fee.
  • 4) When you leave an item in an Uber & you call your driver or your driver calls you through the app to retrieve the item, this triggers Uber's system to then charge you a $20 lost item fee. So ALWAYS double check before you exit an Uber to make sure you have all of your belongings.

Just some things to consider to make it a better experience for you & your next driver.
